Miss West Africa International 2013 winner Maria Sawaneh Maria Sawaneh, the candidate from Gambia, was elected Miss West Africa 2013 last Saturday night at the National Auditorium in Praia. The Gambian residing in Germany took home the crown and became the goodwill ambassador in this African region. Still thrilled by the crown, Maria Sawaneh thanked primarily Cape Verdean audiences for their kindness. The Goodwill Ambassador said that during this year will work more on issues such as tourism and education. The Miss West Africa 2013 award was a check from the official sponsor of the event, T + Unitel, worth a hundred thousand dollars. 1st Runner-up Zalia Maiga 2nd Runner-up Hawa Kamara The other winners were Hawa Kamara, Sierra Leone (2nd lady), Zalia Maiga of Mali (1st lady). Vanny Reis Miss West Africa 2012, said that Maria Sawaneh was well-chosen among 15 candidates. “She has height, beauty, attitude, she is very intelligent and still managed to draw Miss West Africa Diaspora”. Hundreds of people filled the National Auditorium and were not tired of clapping the beauties of West Africa. The animation was made by the artist Princezito and dance group “Mon the Wheel”.
