The Beat 99.9 fm and Billboard have announced the  which will be taking place within the Social Media Week, slated to run from the 18th – 22nd February, 2013 in Lagos.

With internet based technology and social media rapidly becoming part of the cultural landscape across the continent, Social Media Week Lagos looks forward to the invaluable opportunity to examine the economic, social, and cultural impact of social media for Africa.

On Wednesday the 20th of February at the Porsche Centre, Victoria Island, Lagos, Billboard Africa and the Beat 99.9fm will take a critical look at ‘Business and Entrepreneurship’ in an insightful event Chaired by the CEO of Megalectrics Ltd. (operators of the Beat 99.9fm), Chris Ubosi, Social Media Week Lagos Chairman (and Dragon Africa Chief Executive) Obi Asika and Chairman Billboard Africa, Colin Gayle.

Obi Asika had earlier expressed expectations for the significant event; “I’m really excited about this partnership with Billboard and Beat Fm to deliver the Billboard Music Day at Social Media Week Lagos and with the lineup of senior execs this will be a momentous occasion for the Nigerian Music Industry.”

Keynote Speakers of the day include Yinka Adegoke, the Global Deputy Editor, Billboard, who will be speaking on ‘the business of Music and how the Nigerian Industry can engage global markets’, Stephen Newton, former CEO Napster and Google Africa and Marcus Glover who will be delivering on the topic ‘Brands and music’ (with a case study of rapper Jay Z and Reebok, Lil Wayne and Pepsi etc).

Briant Biggs, Director Mobile Strategies of Roc Nation and Mark Redguard, CMO of Spinlet will also be having a lively discussion on how mobile and technology are impacting Africa’s music industry and redefining the music scene.

Senior panelists include Efe Omorogbe, Audu Maikori, Paul Okeugo, Eldee, Segun Demuren, Banky W, Sasha and other players in the Nigerian Scene.

In addition, there will also be a Master Class on Music production, taking place in Beat fm Studios with American record producer Kevin “She’kspere” Briggs and Nigeria’s Cobhams Asuquo. (Kevin Briggs is famous for producing the TLC #1 hit “No Scrubs” and various Destiny’s Child songs from their best selling album The Writing’s on the Wall. He also produced and wrote hits for Mariah Carey, Pink, Whitney Houston, and many others).

The Master Class will be streamed live on internet via google hangout.

The Social Media Week 2013 produced by Dragon Africa, will mark the first time Social Media Week is being hosted by an African country.

The Global 10 City conference, which has received impressive response from the people of Lagos, has over 90 events and boasts of appearances by seasoned veterans as keynote speakers to panels, from Demo’s to Workshops and from Parties to Concerts – thus, proving that there is something for everyone!
