best dressed

The 2013 Golden Globes had us jumping for joy. Not because some of our favorite TV shows and movies won, but because actresses took style chances on the red carpet this year, making for an interesting awards show (and an amazing best-dressed list).

Our favorite celebrities shone in black gowns, which normally leave us a little cold, but thanks to strategic cutouts and pretty details, were anything but boring. We also saw lots of mango and white hue gowns. Check out our picks for best-dressed at the 2013 Golden Globes.

Who do you think looked most fashionable?

Jennifer Lopez in Zuhair Murad

70th Annual Golden Globe Awards - Arrivals

Sexy and shocking, this hard-to-pull-off look would have looked ridiculous on just about anyone — except Jennifer Lopez!

Jessica Alba in Oscar de la Renta

The presenter chose a mermaid-style gown to show off her curves, and the mango hue of the dress is so flattering against her olive skintone. Her loose waves and stunning jewels are pure glamour.

Anne Hathaway in Chanel

Possibly the best light hue on the red carpet (what is with everyone else wearing blushing pink and nude? You’re women, not children). Sometimes, as Anne proves, simple is stunning.

Kate Hudson in Alexander McQueen

The blonde actress looks stunning in black. The detail at her neck and waist highlight the sexy keyhole and her trim waistline, while the gold frames her lovely face.

Kerry Washington in Miu Miu

The “Django Unchained” star has been killing it on red carpets lately, and this is no exception. The peach hue of the dress and sequined detail shine against her skintone, while the very simple cut of the dress are offset by the peek-a-boo effect of the sheer tulle overlay. Simple hair and makeup top off the look perfectly.

Naomi Watts in Zac Posen

Oxblood may be the color of the season, but the back is the erogenous zone to show off. We love a demure dress that surprises with a sexy cutout in the back.

Michelle Dockery in Alexandre Vaulthier

A lot of people attempted the “regal” and “embellished” trend on the Globes carpet, but Michelle is one of the only ones who aced the look. The gold brocade shoulders perfectly highlight her décolletage and lithe waist. She paired the detail-rich dress with simple hair and barely there accessories — a wise and sartorially smart choice.

Julianne Moore in Tom Ford

The “Game Change” actress is sleek and elegant in black and white. The white detail at the waist and up the leg highlight her slim figure, while her updo shows off her show-stopping earrings.

Jennifer Lawrence in Dior Haute Couture

This dress is perfect. The mango hue glowsagainst her tanned skin and dark hair, while the metallic belt catches our eye and puts the focus on her tiny waistline. The voluminous skirt contrasts beautifully with the simple, fitted bodice, and the small simple earrings and clutch are just right.

Taylor Swift in Donna Karan

Swift looks beautiful in this deep burgundy color. But it’s the rear view that is really stunning. Wow, way to go for the drama, Tay Tay.
