The Duchess of Cambridge is one of my favourite stylish ladies out there. Lets take a look back at her sartorial successes.

A Memorable Engagement

For her first formal introduction to the world on Nov. 16, 2010, Kate needed to find the perfect look — and she nailed it! She rocks a refined Issa wrap dress (which sold out within hours of her appearance!) as she and Prince William announce their engagement at St. James Palace in London. Style bonus? The dark-blue color perfectly complements Kate’s sapphire and diamond engagement ring, which once belonged to her fiance’s mother, Princess Diana.

Frugal Find

As a member of the royal family, Kate can certainly afford designer duds — but she still can’t resist a style bargain! Not only is Kate’s bold, black-and-white print dress (which she wears to a wedding in Lambourn, England, on June 11) from inexpensive retailer Zara, but it’s also pre-worn! Kate was photographed wearing the same patterned frock on a night out with sister Pippa Middleton in 2007. British taxpayers should be relieved that their new Duchess knows how to save money.

Beautiful Bride

After their big wedding announcement, fashionistas around the world could hardly wait to see what Kate would wear on her big day. And when she finally stepped out in front of Westminster Abbey on April 29, 2011, her gown choice did not disappoint. With its long laces sleeves, her stunning satin wedding dress — designed by Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen — is the perfect mix of youthful beauty and traditional modesty.

Purple Reign

Kate understands what looks best on her body — so she has no problem rocking another long-sleeved Issa wrap dress! The newlywed sports a bright-purple version of her engagement dress during the Evening National Canada Day Celebrations on July 1, 2011, in Ottawa, Canada. The cut of the dress beautifully highlights Kate’s tiny waist, and her diamond maple leaf brooch (on loan from Queen Elizabeth) helps glam up the look.

Brilliant in Blue

They say you’re not supposed to outshine the bride at a wedding, but Kate just can’t help it! She stands out in a bright-blue Issa frock as she arrives at friends Harry Meade and Rosie Bradford’s wedding in Cheltenham, England, on Oct. 23, 2010. Wearing black pumps and simple black blazer, Kate keeps her accessories simple — except for her stunning Philip Somerville hat. It is an English wedding, after all!

Pretty Princess

Kate stays with a familiar designer to make her Hollywood red-carpet debut during her North American Tour. For the BAFTA Brits to Watch event in L.A. on July 9, Kate sports a Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen lilac gown, accessorized with a metallic Jimmy Choo clutch and earrings lent to her by Queen Elizabeth. Kate was reportedly in awe of the A-list atmosphere, telling one fan, “This is so fancy, I’ve never been to one of these before!” With her elegant look for the event, she looks right at home in Hollywood.

Centre of Attention

All eyes are on Wills and Kate as they arrive at the Sun Military Awards at Imperial War Museum in London on Dec. 19, 2011. There’s nothing basic about Kate’s stunning, black velvet Alexander McQueen gown, which she accessories with her spoke necklace that she received as a wedding gift.

Duty Calls

Kate uses fashion to convey a sense of order while touring an area of Birmingham, England, on Aug. 19, 2011, that was affected by rioting. Her military-esque Alexander McQueen blouse and skirt looks like it came straight off a naval officer — albeit a very fashionable officer. Once again, Kate proves she knows how to dress for every occasion!

Sailor Girl

Kate continues with a nautical theme while visiting Charlottetown on Prince Edward Island, Canada, on July 4, 2011. Her cable-knit sailor dress by Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen comes automatically accessorized with a self-tying scarf. Kate adds sapphire earrings to match her heirloom engagement ring, giving a more grown-up feel to the youthful dress.

Going Green

It’s not easy being green — unless you’re Kate Middleton, that is! The Duchess glows in a grass-colored silk Diane Von Furstenburg dress while attending a private reception at the British Consul-General’s residence in L.A. on July 8, 2011. She accessorizes with a fun leopard print clutch by Diane Von Furstenburg and, of course, her bright-white smile.

Denim Darling

Who says a Duchess can’t dress down? Kate effortlessly brings sophistication to a casual look while visiting Alberta, Canada on July 6, 2011. She shows off her trim legs in her favorite pair of J Brand jeans and wears a cream, ruffled blouse with a navy Smythe blazer to keep the look from feeling too relaxed. (She is royalty, after all!)

Oh, Canada!

To help celebrate Canada Day on July 1, 2011, Kate makes sure to coordinate her outfit with Canada’s national colours! She sports an intricately draped white Reiss dress (which she also wears in her official engagement photo), a daring red fascinator and ruby-red heels to the Canadian Museun of Civilization in Gatineau. The result is patriotic — without looking cheesy.

All That Glitters

Looks like married life is treating them well! A little over a month after tying the knot, the couple is all smiles at the ARK Gala Dinner in London on June 9, 2011. Kate’s form-fitting blush Jenny Packham gown shows her glamorous side, and her matching Prada clutch and rosy cheeks complete the look.

Red-Hot Couple

The classy couple complements each other perfectly at a fundraising gala at St. James’ Palace in London on Oct. 13, 2011. Kate’s bright-red Beulah London gown helps jazz up William’ classic tuxedo — her loose curls and her understated makeup allow her striking dress to steal the show.
